Three former employees of the Texas Attorney General’s Office appear ready to settle a whistleblowing and retaliation case against the state’s top lawman.
The developments stem from accusations made by former top deputies of Attorney General Ken Paxton, who accused him of serious crimes such as abuse of office and bribery at the end of 2020.
According to James Barragán, politics reporter for The Texas Tribune, three of the four whistleblowers are now entering into settlement talks, which could potentially resolve the issue outside of court.
“There’s a fourth whistleblower who says he doesn’t want any part of it,” Barragán says. “He wants to adjudicate it in court. And so we’ll see what happens with the progress on that case.”
