U.S. Sen. John Cornyn of Texas said in a recent interview that “no one under the age of 20 has died of the coronavirus. We still don’t know whether children can get it and transmit it to others.”
Is that a fact?
Madlin Mekelburg, of PolitiFact Texas at the Austin American Statesman, spoke with Texas Standard host David Brown about the senator’s claims.
“He was talking about how when they’re making these decisions the most important factor needs to be safety,” Mekelburg said. “The issue here is that the risk of serious illness increases with age but people under the age of 20 actually have died after contracting the virus.”
