Border Officials Keep Sending Asylum Seekers With Disabilities, Illnesses Back To Mexico

Last year, the Trump administration initiated a rule change formally known as the Migrant Protection Protocols, or the MPP. Less formally it became known as the Remain in Mexico Policy. Those seeking asylum in the U.S. are sent back to Mexico to await asylum hearings. Those with health issues are supposed to be exempt from being sent back. But in many cases, these migrants are returned to Mexico.
