Social media company Meta really wants to connect with Gen Z – but its flagship platform, Facebook, is known for appealing more to parents and grandparents than to kids and young adults these days.

At a recent event in Austin called Facebook IRL, the company tried its hand at appealing to young influencers. Tech expert Omar Gallaga was there and joined the Standard to share what he learned.

Highlights from this segment:

– The Facebook IRL event was designed for influencers and heavy users to hear about new product rollouts and announcements, including that Facebook is revamping some of the way feeds work to emphasize local and video content.

– Meta highlighted Facebook’s dating aspect, Marketplace and a new local tab – features it thinks will attract Gen Z as they age into using Facebook, if they’re not already.

– Meta is introducing a new AI tool called Movie Gen that will allow users to create video or audio from a text prompt.
