Here’s How Lackland Is Preparing For The Arrival Of Coronavirus Evacuees

The San Antonio military base is one of five in the U.S. that is preparing to receive evacuees who are at risk of being infected with coronavirus.

Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio is prepared to house hundreds of American evacuees from China who may have been exposed to the coronavirus. More than 500 evacuees have already arrived in the U.S. They’re expected to arrive at the military installation on Friday. They will be quarantined at an on-base hotel for two weeks.

Capt. Jennifer McQuiston, deputy director of Centers for Disease Control’s Division of High Consequence Pathogens and Pathology, said the flight will take off from Wuhan, a city in the Hubei province, and land first at Travis Air Force Base in California. The travelers will then move to a privately contracted plane, which will transport them to Lackland.
