It’s time for the week that was in Texas politics with Alex Samuels, political reporter for The Texas Tribune.

Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders has doubled his support among Texas Democrats, according to a new UT/Texas Tribune poll.

“He’s now ahead of former Vice President and [Massachusetts Sen.] Elizabeth Warren,” Samuels says. “They were two leaders in the October UT/Texas Tribune poll.”

Samuels says the changes may be a result of voting in New Hampshire and Iowa, as well as the presence of Beto O’Rourke and Julián Castro in the race, when the earlier poll was taken.

Gov. Greg Abbott will tour the state in support of Republican state House incumbents and other candidates, ahead of the March 3 primary. He is expected to stump for at least 10 GOP candidates.

For voters interested in the crowded race for the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate, The Texas Tribune has produced a guide to the top contenders. And on Feb. 18, the Texas Standard will kick off coverage of a debate among the Democratic Senate candidates, co-sponsored by several media outlets, including The Texas Tribune. All but one of the 12 candidates has confirmed they will participate
