Land Commissioner
The land commissioner oversees millions of acres of land in Texas, as well as the administering of public school funds and disaster relief. The seat is open after outgoing commissioner George P. Bush entered the Republican primary for attorney general. Lakeway Republican state Sen. Agriculture Commissioner
The Texas agriculture commissioner oversees farming and ranching in the Lone Star State, as well as the promotion of rural health care and consumer protection. One of the most “consequential climate-related offices in the country,” the Railroad Commission is a three-member state agency that regulates the oil and gas industry. Members are elected to six-year terms. GOP chairman Wayne Christian has held his seat since 2016. His frontrunner challenger is Democrat Luke Warford.
