Rich Wright, from El Paso, Texas, says the Austin-style flour taco is no taco at all.
“Any school kid in El Paso knows that a taco and a flour tortilla is a burrito,” he says.
And if you want the best Mexican food in Texas, you have to get down to El Paso.
“There are maybe 100, or 200, maybe 400 mom-and-pop Mexican restaurants in El Paso, and every one of them serves better Mexican food than you can get anywhere else in the world,” Wright says. “Ninety-five percent of those mom-and-pop Mexican restaurants in El Paso close before 4 PM.
But that’s not a problem because Wright says breakfast is the best meal when it comes to Mexican cuisine.
“You can get huevos rancheros, chilaquiles, machaca, enchiladas montadas, menudo, – the restaurants here in El Paso fight over who makes the best menudo,” he says. “A good bowl of menudo almost makes getting hungover worth it.”
