Typewriter Rodeo: All the Holidays, All at Once

Each week, the Standard reaches out to Austin’s Typewriter Rodeo for a custom poem on Texas topics.

Tis the season for a trip to any retailer to make you feel very confused about the actual date on the calendar. Is it really time to buy egg nog already? What happened to that bag of Halloween candy I saw here last week? Are those — little Santas?? That inspired this Typewriter Rodeo poem.

All the Holidays, All at Once

This year,
I’m embracing the holiday season
In all its nonstop glory

Rejecting any spaciousness between festivities
and just piling it all in

More fun
more jingle
more joy
more sparkle

I’m wearing pumpkin pie sweaters
and firework hats

Letting my boss know
that I’ll be off on winter break

From Halloween through New Year’s
(With a few days for
post holiday recovery.)

And mostly I’m celebrating
remembering
commemorating
discovering
and saying yes
yes
yes
to this whole
ongoing
elftacular season

Happy Hallo’onwards, y’all!
