College commencements are taking place across Texas over the next few weeks. That was the inspiration for this week’s Typewriter Rodeo poem.
BACK TO THE NEST
Oh sweet heady day
When you finished UT!
A new college grad
Moving out, with glee!
Out there in the world
With a place of your own
A brand new job
And a brand new home!
And of course I missed you
And cried way too loud
But they were tears of joy
Of being so proud
But now, a year later
Here you are, sheepish grin–
“Hey, Mom, guess what?
I’m moving back in.”
And where you’ll go next
Yup, it’s quite a quandry
But one thing I know–
I’m not doing your laundry
