Each year, October 29 is dedicated to all things feline. Cat owners will be trying to get their cat to behave for the perfect Instagram photo and dog lovers will be rolling their eyes. The cats themselves – despite our best efforts – likely will not care about their own holiday, content to sleep in the corner. And occasionally walk all over our keyboards.

as if
they would know,
or care
as if
there isn’t enough
cat-themed merchandise
already
as if
tumblr, twitter and facebook
need another excuse
and as if
we who are privileged to serve
our feline overlords
don’t celebrate them
every day
every hour
every minute
especially when they do
that one cute thing
they do
that almost convinces you
(but not quite)
that they possess the capacity
to love
