The season doesn’t technically change for another month, but the start of the school year starts to make a shift towards fall. It’s been a hot, dry summer in Texas and many are ready to move on. But, before we do, this Typewriter Rodeo poem highlights a few things we’ll miss.
Ode to Summer
Let’s hear it for popsicles
& sno-cones-
Sweat & sugar disappeared
by dips in the lake
Boredom & doldrums
solved by sprinklers & sparklers
BBQs & block parties
confettied with tank tops
& flip flops
Let’s hear it for long days
spent searching
for the perfect patio drink
for too-short nights spent making
grass angels
watching the bats come out to dance
String lights eventually blending with twinkling stars
under the fading glow
of a summer moon.
