Typewriter Rodeo: Parent-Teacher Night

Each week, the Standard reaches out to Austin’s Typewriter Rodeo for a custom poem on the news.

Now that the back-to-school buzz has abated, it’s almost time for the next school-year milestone: parent-teacher conferences. These public school nighttime events inspired this week’s poem by Kari Anne Roy.

Parent-Teacher Night

who knew

who knew

chairs could be so tiny

tables could sit

below your knees

who knew

who knew

how much time it takes

to understand the day-to-day

of kiddos in school

teachers that’s who

so sit up straight

take good notes

and don’t be the parent

you know the one

who day-dreams during parent-teacher night

or you

you

won’t be in the know

and you’ll get that look

you know the one

familiar from so many

years ago
