From Texas Public Radio:

After nearly two weeks on the loose, Gracie the giraffe has been found safe.

The giraffe was spotted early Friday morning near Cedar Hollow Ranch west of Leakey. Ranch manager Vick Jones said the animal, which escaped earlier this month, was located by helicopter on a neighboring property.

By midmorning Friday, authorities were preparing to tranquilize Gracie so she could be safely returned to the ranch, where several other exotic animals are kept, including a companion giraffe named Atlas.

Gracie’s disappearance took on a life of its own as local organizations, businesses and residents shared photos and messages of support on social media, often placing the missing giraffe alongside familiar landmarks across the region.

Gracie is estimated to be around 3 years old and stands nearly 11 feet tall. She went missing on June 12.
