Supreme Court reshapes immigration policy
The U.S. Supreme Court handed down two immigration decisions that expand the executive branch’s authority over asylum and Temporary Protected Status. The rulings could affect who is able to seek protection in the United States and how much oversight courts have over immigration policy.
Denise Gilman, professor at the University of Texas School of Law and co-director of its Immigration Clinic, joins the Standard with more.
Houston maps out its next five years
Houston leaders have approved an $18 billion capital improvement plan outlining major investments in roads, drainage, parks and other infrastructure over the next five years. But as past projects have shown, funding doesn’t always translate into timely construction, and many neighborhoods continue pushing for long-promised improvements.
