Opposition to new data centers in Texas and around the country has grown as activists worry that the massive facilities will siphon resources from the electrical grid, harm water quality or lead to other impacts.

In some communities, activists have sought limitations on the projects or simply requested more information about what’s planned.

Environmentalist Erin Brockovich has created what she calls an interactive hub, a website where individuals can share information about data centers in their area.

Tech expert Omar Gallaga says Brockovich’s site consists of data center information submitted by readers and verified by her team.

Highlights from this segment:

– Brockovich first gained fame when she challenged a California power company over water pollution. Her story was made into a movie in 2000, starring Julia Roberts.

– The interactive hub is crowd-sourced. Brockovich asked readers to send her information about existing or planned data centers in their area.

– The motivations for the project include concerns over data center use of power and water, and a desire for increased transparency about the presence and scope of the facilities.
